Is there a way to make the festive season more stressful than it already is? Schedule your home relocation during the holidays and you will quickly find out that there is always a way. Most people avoid planning a move before Christmas but if, for some reason, you need to relocate during the last days of the year, try to avoid scheduling the moving day on any one of these dates:
- Black Friday
- Super Saturday
- 24 – 26 December
- 31 – 1 January
Black Friday
Even though there is about 4 weeks’ time between Black Friday and Christmas Day, you should avoid planning a move around the busiest shopping day (or shall we say week) of the year. Traffic is crazy and it may take you hours to pull off a local removal and if you need to relocate to a different town or city, delays will be imminent even if you choose to rely on comprehensive removals to Oxford, for instance. What is more, many moving companies also offer store delivery services and that means that they will be super busy which will make removal rates unbearable.
Super Saturday
For those of you who do not know what a “Super Saturday” is, we will explain that this is the Saturday before Christmas. Why you should avoid moving on this day? Because many people prefer to travel for the holidays on the weekend before the Xmas’s Eve. That is especially the case if Christmas falls on a workday.
On the very day of the holiday
The worst dates on which you can schedule a domestic move is on the very days of Christmas or New Year’s Eve. You are not likely to be able to use professional moving services such as organised removals in New Barnet EN4, EN5, for example. Plus, you will ruin your holiday.
What options do you have then?
As you can see, even if you choose to relocate weeks prior to the festive season, you will still need to put up with hefty moving rates, slow traffic times, delays and other nightmares. So, if you can, either move shortly after the New Year or at least 2-3 weeks prior to Xmas. If you have no other choice but to move during the holidays, opt for a workday move and not a weekend one. In that way, you will have better chances of hiring skilled movers or, at the very least, a moving van.
A few extra tips to help you out
Be mentally prepared that your house move will not be an easy one. It also won’t be a cheap one so get ready to dig deep into your pockets. No matter how much pricier it would be, it is always best if you use the assistance of professionals. That will greatly speed up the whole ordeal. One last thing, pack your holiday decorations and Christmas gifts separately from your other stuff. That will allow you to quickly find them when you start unpacking since you will not need to open every and go through every single box of items you have taken with you.
